Balashowry had previously won the seat in 2019 as a candidate for the YSRCP but joined the Jana Sena Party in early 2024.  State politics (Assembly)For the Machilipatnam Assembly constituency, the political landscape is defined by the following: Current MLA: Kollu Ravindra of the TDP won the 2024 Assembly election. Cabinet post: He now serves as the Minister for Mines and Geology and Minister for Excise in the Andhra Pradesh state government. Election result: Ravindra defeated his YSRCP opponent, Perni Krishnamurthy (Kittu), with a margin of more than 50,000 votes.
